Grant on Global News: Vancouver approves police traffic camera access

Vancouver city council has passed a motion this week allowing police access to the city’s traffic cameras. The aim is to help with investigations and responses to incidents quicker on an on-needed basis. Grant Gottgetreu, forensic consultant and former West Vancouver & New West traffic cop joins Global News Morning to discuss the motion.

“Traffic cameras have been around for a long time, and from my understanding, they’re not recorded. They’re live feeds… This is a little bit more complicated because there would have to be some sort of data storage for all of this information and that’s a cost to the taxpayers… And for the amount of files that I can see it being used on, I don’t see it justifying the expense…”
